The Black Durgon Triggerfish (Melichthys niger) is a medium large trigger that is very rare in our location. We have seen an influx of these gorgeous triggers recently, most likely blown in from recent hurricanes. They are a circumtropical fish, which means they are also found in other oceans. They look jet black underwater, with white stripes one each on the base of the dorsal and anal fin, but under better lighting have brilliant coloration. This is handsdown one of our favorite fish. The durgon is easy to care for, and requires a meaty diet. In our limited experience with this fish, it doesn't seem quite as aggressive as some other triggers, but you will definitely need to choose tankmates with care.
